Police: Wheaton Mall Assault Believed to be Random

A first-degree assault at Westfield Wheaton mall last month is believed to be random and unprovoked, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).

Around 8 p.m. inside the mall on April 15, two female suspects pushed a female victim down on the ground, kicked her in the face and sprayed bleach in her eyes before fleeing, police said in a release Monday.

The victim did not know either of the suspects, Police Spokesperson and Officer Casandra Tressler Durham told MyMCM on Tuesday. The assault occurred while the victim was walking in the mall. She was taken to a hospital with serious injury to her face.

Police released surveillance video of the two suspects and ask for the public’s help identifying them. Anyone with information is asked to call the 4th District Investigative Section at 240-773-5530 or 240-773-TIPS. Callers can also contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Up to $10,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest. Callers can be anonymous.
