Welcome to our Weekend Roundup of events in Montgomery County. Here are nine things to do this weekend, September 8-10.

FRIDAY, September 8

Long Branch Festival: Celebrate the dynamic neighborhood, businesses and culture of Long Branch with kids shows, live music and dancing Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Three events Friday evening include Puerto Rican Born jazz vocalist Taisha Estrada at 6 p.m., DC Casineros dance company at 7 p.m., and the DuPont Brass band at 8 p.m. Check out the full schedule here. Morning Tweets and Tea: Learn about birding while sipping a cup of freshly brewed tea Friday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Locust Grove Nature Center in Cabin John Regional Park. The event is free but tickets are required and may be obtained online here. Locust Grove Nature Center is located at 7777 Democracy Boulevard in Bethesda.

The Trawick Prize Art Awards and Exhibit Opening Reception: The annual visual art exhibit is on display at Bethesda’s Gallery B from now through Oct. 1. The Gallery is located at 7700 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite E. The gallery hours for the exhibit will be Thursday-Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Meet the artists at the opening reception tonight from 6 to 8 p.m.

SATURDAY, September 9

Silver Spring Jazz Festival: Three-time grammy award winner singer Dee Dee Bridgewater headlines this years jazz festival Saturday from 3-10 p.m. With three stages of entertainment and multiple musicians set to perform, enjoy diverse jazz in this outdoor setting. A pre-show Latin and American jazz concert by Taisha Estrada takes place on the Ellsworth Plaza Stage from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Find the lineup here to plan your visit to the festival. Dee Dee Bridgewater performs on the Mainstage at 8:30 p.m. The Jazz Festival takes place on Veterans Plaza  at Fenton Street and Ellsworth Drive in downtown Silver Spring. Artisans Market:  The market at Black Rock Center for the Arts takes place Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. outdoors on the lawn. Explore hand crafted jewelry, candles, wood works and more at this monthly market. The event is free, tickets are available here. Black Rock Center for the Arts is located in Germantown at 12901 Town Commons Drive.

Bluegrass on the Farm:  The sounds of bluegrass music return to the Agricultural History Farm Park Saturday for the 16th Annual Bluegrass on the Farm concert. The Friends of the Farm Park sponsors the concert each September for a day of music in a 20th century farm setting. The concert takes place from noon to 6 p.m. Discounted tickets are available online at friendsofthefarmpark.org. The Farm Park is located at 18400 Muncaster Road in Derwood. Parking is plentiful and free. Attendees may bring leashed pets.

SUNDAY, September 10

JSSA Family Wellness Day:  Bring your family to the Jewish Social Service Agency’s family wellness day Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. in Gaithersburg. The festival gives children, parents, and guardians access to tools and community resources to improve overall well-being. The event features games, face painting, a petting zoo, live music performances, booth bingo, food and beverages. The event is free and provides an opportunity to meet Eileen Whelan, ABC 7 Meteorologist and host of Good Morning Washington who serves as the emcee for the days activities. The event takes place at Bohrer Park, located at 506 S. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg. The event is free, register here for a free goodie bag.

Silver Spring Arts & Crafts Ends of Summer Celebration: Celebrate the end of summer with food, music, dancing, vendors, and more. The whole family will find something of interest Sunday, Sept. 10 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Veterans Plaza, located at One Veterans Place. The event is free, find information here.

Takoma Park Folk Festival:  The Takoma Park Folk Festival returns this Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. with six stages of music, community tables and the craft show which is held inside the halls of Takoma Park Middle School. Organizers suggest wearing sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen because most of the festival is held outdoors. The event is free, more information is available here and musician bios available here.
