Silver Spring Native, ESPN Co-Host Inspires Kids at White Oak Lacrosse Camp

Children at a lacrosse summer camp in White Oak received a visit from a Montgomery County native who co-hosts an ESPN women’s lacrosse show.

Tari Kandemiri, co-host of Sound On with Tari & Amari, spoke to MoCo Lacrosse campers at the White Oak Community Recreation Center on Monday.

Kandemiri, who now lives in Atlanta, became a counselor at the camp after her freshman year in high school because she recognized the gap in access to lacrosse. She played at Springbrook High School and Sewanee: the University of the South in Tennessee. She is back in the area covering the Athletes Unlimited women’s pro league and visiting family.

She hopes she can encourage children in lacrosse, especially considering some disparities within the sport.

“There aren’t very many people of color, in particular, playing lacrosse, especially women,” Kandemiri told MyMCM.

“And so letting the children know and the young people know that there are people like them that play lacrosse and have succeeded in the game, that really is something so close to my heart.”

The MoCo Lacrosse program was founded by Bethesda resident Jeff Wagner.
