Silver Spring Woman Puts Best Shoes Forward for the Homeless

Mallery Perkins has lived in Silver Spring for only a year, but that has been enough for her to get involved with helping the homeless she sees living on the streets.

During December, she is collecting gently-used sneakers and boots for the homeless, culminating in a Dec. 26 event at Jesup Blair Park on Georgia Avenue. She set up about a dozen drop off spots, including Bump N Grind Coffee, 1200 East West Highway, Silver Spring, and Share the Big News, 8221 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring.

Her organization is Making Major Changes, and the shoes project is called Sole Support. Here is her story.
