Sunflowers Aren’t Forever, Hurry to Poolesville to View Them

The clock is ticking…there’s not much time left to view the fields of sunflowers at the McKee-Beshers Wildlife Management Area in Poolesville.

The fields, off River Road, are planted each spring by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. According to its website, the sunflowers are used as a primary food source for mourning doves and other birds after the plants mature and dry.

Mourning doves are then hunted in these fields in September through January.
