What it Means to be a County K-9 Officer

The Montgomery County K-9 Unit handles more than 50 cases or situations monthly. The actual numbers that officers respond to calls far exceed that but often times, handlers arrive on the scene and end up assisting in other ways.

MCM was granted inside access to the unit’s specialized training and talked to K-9 Officer Andrew Richardson about what it means to be a canine police officer in the county.

The K-9 unit is most common cases or situations the K-9 unit are involved are robberies, burglaries, aggravated assaults, homicides, stolen vehicles, and carjackings.
