5 Things to Know Today, May 16, In Montgomery County

Today is Monday, May 16 and here are five things to know happening in Montgomery County today.

1. Council President Briefing: Council President Gabe Albornoz and Public Health Manager Sean O’Donnell will hold a media briefing today at 11 a.m. to discuss Council matters and and provide a public health update. The briefing will be streamed on the Council’s Facebook page here.

2. Summer Registration Opens: Registration for both the recreation summer programs and the parks summer programs starts today.

3. Bicycle Swag Bag Contest Drawing:  The county transportation department will hold a drawing today to promote Friday’s Bike to Work Day.

4. COVID-19 Rent and Water Bill Relief:  Montgomery County’s COVID-19 rent relief program for low income residents reopens today. A new federally-funded grant program to assist low-income residents with past due water bills is also available.

5. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. The agenda and information packet may be found online. The Town Commissioners of Poolesville meet tonight at 7 p.m. The agenda may be found online. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet at 7 p.m. The agenda and information may be found online.

And One More Thing: The Long Branch Community Recreation Center is reopening today. A celebration is planned for Saturday, May 21 and will include dancing, music, food, face painting, and games.
