5 Things to Know Today, April 10, In Montgomery County

Today is Monday, April 10 and here are five things to know today. Weather forecasters tell us to expect sunny skies with a high temp in the 60s .

1. Schools Closed: Today is the last day of spring break for Montgomery County Public School (MCPS) students.

2. Council President Briefing: Council President Evan Glass will meet with the media today at 1:30 p.m to discuss the Council’s review of the recommended operating budget and other council matters. The briefing will be streamed on the Council’s Facebook page here.

3. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. tonight for a budget work session (both in-person and virtual). The meeting agenda and information packet is available online.The Kensington Town Council meets virtually tonight at 7 p.m. The agenda and information to join the meeting via zoom may be found online. The Rockville Mayor and Council do not meet this week, their next scheduled meeting takes place Monday, April 17.

4. Did You Know?  The Metropolitan Council of Governments kicked off a four-week education campaign to let people know it’s not okay to throw away an old battery. Many when heated or punctured can start a fire with devastating consequences.

5. Fire Chief Resigns: Scott Goldstein will resign from the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service on June 30. MyMCM spoke with him about his decision and plans after serving the county for 31 years.

And One More Thing: The county begins cleaning the public garages in Bethesda, Silver Spring and Wheaton today. Some entrances may be closed while cleaning is in progress. This week garages 40, 11, and 11A in Bethesda are scheduled to be cleaned. View the schedule here.
