A fund raised to help pay for the funeral and burial expenses of a Gaithersburg man fatally-struck by a vehicle Friday night has raised $3,820 raised toward its $15,000 since it was set up three days ago.
Craig Anthony Budd, 61, was crossing the street at the intersection of North Frederick Avenue at around 8:10 p.m. when he was hit by a BMW, according to Montgomery County police. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver remained on site.
Budd’s children, ShaVonté and Craig Budd, Jr., set up a GoFundMe to honor their late father and to help cover the costs associated with the sudden loss. More than 50 people has donated.
“Nothing could have prepared us for this loss or for having to say goodbye to someone who meant so much to our family, those who knew and loved him, and the community he impacted,” Budd’s children wrote in joint a statement.
Budd was a barber in the county, where he made a name for himself in the community.
“Many knew him through his barbershop, Major League Barbers in Montgomery Village, where he became a familiar and cherished presence in the community. Others knew him as “Santo,” for his love of go-go music and affiliation with High Potential Band. He also poured into young people as a mentor, using his experiences and the lessons life taught him to help guide others,” wrote the Budd children.
