5 Things to Know Today, Dec. 17, In Montgomery County

Today is Friday, Dec. 17 and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Virtual Friday with Friedson: Councilmember Andrew Friedson hosts a virtual conversation with county residents to give them the opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts.

2. Bike Lanes Will Be Removed: The pilot program providing bike lanes on both sides of University Boulevard between Amherst and Arcola avenues in Silver Spring is expected to end and the white barriers removed. Residents have until Dec. 17 to respond to a survey on the possible continuation of the program.

For the past six months, one travel lane in each direction of University Boulevard was designated for bicycles. Flexible vertical delineators separated the bike and motor vehicle lanes.

3. Food Distribution: UpCounty Hub Drive-thru Distribution from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Apple Ridge Recreation Area – 10101 Apple Ridge Rd. Montgomery Village, MD 20886. Please remain in your car, have your mask on and trunk open. The maximum is 2 boxes/bags per car.

4. Candy Cane with a Cop: The 4th District of Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) invites the community to get a candy cane to share with the police department from 1:00 p.m. to 2:0o p.m. at 11160 Veirs Mill Rd.

5. Candlelight Christmas: Led by The Washington Chorus’s new artistic director and conductor Dr. Eugene Rogers and featuring guest performances from Met Opera soprano Aundi Marie Moore from Chesapeake, Va, National Capitol Brass, handbells, and organist Paul Byssainthe, the concert will feature popular carols along with holiday favorites and newly commissioned works. You can catch the performances at The Music Center at Strathmore Friday, December 17 at 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, December 23 at 3:00 p.m.
