This week violent incidents were reported on public schools’ premises, most recently the arrest of a 16-year-old student at Montgomery Blair High School. The arrest occurred after the stabbing of another student in the school parking lot. Council Vice-president Gabe Albornoz talked to MyMCM about the importance of ensuring safety and security for the students as well as their health and wellness.
On Wednesday, Dr. Monifa B. McKnight Interim Superintendent of MCPS wrote a message to the community where she emphasized schools “Will not tolerate weapons of any sort on school grounds. Anyone found to be in possession of a weapon at a school, on school property, or at a school-sponsored event will be referred to the police”.
McKnight also reminded the community about the virtual sessions currently available through MCPS Mental Health Awareness Week.
