Detectives with the Montgomery County Police Department are investigating a single-vehicle fatal collision that happened in Fairland on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency crews responded to the collision on Greencastle Road at Pitcairn Place shortly around 5:45 pm.
During a preliminary investigation, detectives determined that a 2016 Chrysler 200 was traveling east on Greencastle Road near Pitcairn Place before leaving the roadway and striking a tree. Investigators believe that excessive speed was a contributing factor to the collision.
Police say 30-year-old Gadivel Aviles Navarrete of Lanham was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. Navarrete was pronounced dead at the scene.
