Takoma Park Police Collects Over 300 Pounds of Medicines

Takoma Park Police collected 339 pounds of expired and unused medicines during Nationwide Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Chief Antonio DeVaul thanked those who participated, stressing that this program prevents pill abuse and theft by ridding homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.

Residents still can dispose of excess and expired prescription and over-the-counter medications at the City of Takoma Park Police Department, 7500 Maple Avenue, 1st Floor lobby. Accepted medications include prescription and non-prescription drugs, patches, ointments, over-the-counter medications vitamins or pet medication by dropping them into the green Med-Return mailbox. Also accepted are vape pens and other e-cigarette devices after the batteries are removed .

Takoma Park is not accepting liquids, inhalers, aerosol cans, regular household ointments/lotions, needles/sharps and/or thermometers.

The collection site is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Drugs can be dropped off with no questions asked.
