White’s Ferry Impasse Hits Third Anniversary

The closing of White’s Ferry over a private land dispute continues into another year. In the past the Fair Access Committee, residents of the Upper County area, has held rallies to educate the public on this seemingly unsolvable dilemma. At the three-year mark, that mission seems accomplished while frustration at the negotiating gridlock grows. MCM talked with key players in the Poolesville community about the current situation and their thoughts about the future of the ferry.

Before its closing in December of 2020, White’s Ferry was the last of more than 100 that traversed the Potomac from the shores of Maryland to Virginia since the late 18th century. The most recent statement about White’s Ferry from the Fair Access Committee can be found here.
