Young Dancers Headed to Perform in New York City

Eleven young dancers with Empower by Bella Ballet in Gaithersburg are taking their dance moves to Broadway and Times Square.

The girls, who range in age from 12 to 14, will perform a hip hop number at the New Amsterdam Theater in New York City Dec. 1. Two days later, they will perform a jazz medley with other schools in Times Square.

In between, the girls will be treated to a special workshop by members of the Radio City Rockettes.

“They are very, very excited. For some of them, it’s their first time in New York,” she said.

Most of the girls have been dancing together since they were three years old, according to Micaela Pettit, creative director.

The hip hop number is entitled Level Up, and the jazz piece is Magic in the Air.

Besides Pettit, Bella Ballet owner Hope MacDonald and executive director Jackie Jacobs will accompany the girls on their journey.
