MCPS to Hold Forum on Student Safety in Wake of Violent Outbreaks

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will hold a virtual community forum on student safety and security in the wake of a spike in student violence.

The forum will feature a panel of experts and community partners, share MCPS’ commitment to health-related, psychological and physical student safety.

Police have responded to over 48 reported assaults in Montgomery County’s public school system over the past year, including three fights at Rockville’s Richard Montgomery High School.

Concerns for students’ mental health over the tumultuous year and a half have been voiced in a recent petition calling for mental and social support, and the removal of community engagement officers in MCPS.

The forum—Safety, Security and Well-Being of Our Students— will run from 7–8:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 13. Concerned community members can submit questions in advance.
