5 Things to Know Today, March 9, In Montgomery County

It is Tuesday, March 9, and today is a holiday that Marylanders might be the best at celebrating… it’s National Crab Meat Day! Go all out with your crab meat, Marylanders, and in the meantime, here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. County COVID-19 Testing Clinics: Free COVID-19 testing is available throughout the county at nine testing sites today.

2. Council Meets Virtually: The Montgomery County Council meets at 9 a.m. and here’s a look at the agenda for the meeting. The meeting will be televised on County Cable Montgomery Channels Comcast HD 996 and SD6, RCN HD 1056 and SD 6, and Verizon 30. Additionally, it will be live-streamed on the council’s Facebook and Youtube channel.

3. School Board Meets: Montgomery County Public Schools Board of Education meets virtually at 10 a.m. The school board will be presented with three academic calendar scenarios for the 2021-2022 schoolyear. The board will approve an academic calendar on March 23, but during this meeting, the board will be listening to public comment. Here’s a look at the full agenda for today’s meeting.

4. Metro Budget Public Hearings: Metro’s FY 2022 budget eliminates 22 stations, three of which are on the Red Line. Turnbacks would return at the Silver Spring and Grosvenor-Strathmore stations. 5. Learn About USG: The Universities at Shady Grove is hosting free virtual sessions for prospective students to learn about its campus and programs. Tonight’s session focuses on the school’s bioscience, nursing and health programs. It is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Zoom.
