5 Things to Know Today, Sept. 26, In Montgomery County

Today is Monday, Sept. 26 and it is the second day of Rosh Hashanah—or Jewish New Year—which marks the beginning of the Jewish High Holy Days.

Here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Schools Closed: Montgomery County Public Schools are closed today.

2. Board of Election News: A judge ruled Friday that mail-in ballots may be counted starting on Oct. 1, according the Maryland Matters.

3. Rainbow Fentanyl: Multicolored fentanyl pills that are designed to tempt young people have been found in Maryland. Called rainbow fentanyl, the drugs look like candy but are so potent that teens have overdosed and died from them.

4. Career Counselor Assistance: Job counselors are available to meet one-on-one with job seekers through the public libraries H.I.R.E program. Sessions are available from 9:30 to 11:30 today. Register here. The libraries offer additional virtual classes during September.

5. Fall Festival: The community gathered Saturday for the 31st Annual Burtosnville Day. MyMCM’s Michael Hernández was there and here are a few scenes from the parade.
