‘The Pulse’ on Maryland’s primary election, the youngest candidate and World Cup politics

This week on The Pulse, we bring you the latest on Montgomery County’s Democratic primary election results featuring comments from County Executive frontrunner Councilmember Will Jawando and his fellow councilmembers and competitors in the county executive race Andrew Friedson and Evan Glass with reflections from sitting County Executive Marc Elrich, who is leading in the at-large council race.

In this episode, MCM’s reporters Maryam Shazad and Fran Murphy break down the early results as thousands of mail-in and provisional ballots continue to be counted, leaving some local races too close to call.

Then, meet Andrew Frykman, 18, the youngest candidate on this year’s ballot, who shared ahead of the election why he believes his age is an advantage in his bid for the Montgomery County Board of Education.

We also explore how the FIFA World Cup is bringing communities together, hear what Maryland Gov. Wes Moore and U.S. Rep April McClain Delaney have to say about the impact of the global tournament on these divisive times, and examine the growing debate over natural grass versus artificial turf for local athletes in a report from Sports Reporter Frank Hanrahan.

Finally, Reporter Cristina Caicedo Smith ventures off the campaign trail to a local flower farm where a late season frost threatens to freeze profits.
