Five Things to Know for Feb. 26 in Montgomery County

Good morning! In the Western Christian calendar, it’s Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Easter is 46 days away. Here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. MoCo Rec Job Fair: Montgomery County Department of Recreation is looking for seasonal employees and is hosting a job fair from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Gwendolyn Coffield Community Recreation Center in Silver Spring.

2. Coffee with a Cop:  Montgomery County Police officers from the Rockville district are inviting the community to their Coffee with a Cop event at the Starbucks in Target, located at 5700 Bou Avenue, from 10 to 11 a.m.

3. National Fairy Tale Day: Locust Grove, located at 7777 Democracy Boulevard in Bethesda, is celebrating Fairy Tale Days with free exhibits and imaginative play activities. Stop by from 1 to 6 p.m.

4. ICC Closures Continue During the Week: The westbound lanes of the ICC between US 1 and I-95 will be closed from today at 9 a.m. through Thursday, Feb. 27 at 5 a.m.

5. Mass Deportation, Incarceration in the 21st Century: Tanya Maria Golash-Boza, a professor and chair of Public Health at the University of California Merced, is speaking about mass deportation and mass incarceration in the 21st century from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Montgomery College’s Cultural Arts Center in Silver Spring. The first 50 students to attend the meeting will receive a free copy of Golash-Boza’s book “Deported.”
