Five Things to Know for July 20 in Montgomery County

The heat emergency continues through Tuesday as the county opens cooling centers. It’s Monday, July 20, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. COVID-19 Test Options: Montgomery County offers testing to all county residents at clinics in Germantown, White Oak, Silver Spring, Wheaton, and Olney. The clinics are free, and you do not need a doctor’s order. Click here for more details. The State of Maryland also maintains a list of facilities offering COVID-19 testing.

2. County Council Committee Meetings:  Two council committees meet virtually today and may be viewed live on YouTube or Facebook. The Government Operations Committee meets at 9:30 a.m. (Watch on YouTube here.) The Transportation and Environment Committee meets at 2:30 p.m. (Watch on YouTube here.)

3. County Pools Update: Seven of Montgomery County Recreation’s outdoor pools and three indoor aquatic centers are open with restrictions. Learn five things to know before heading out.  This video explains how to make a reservation online:

 

4. Municipal Monday: Gaithersburg’s Mayor and Council meet 7:30 p.m. Here’s the agenda and virtual meeting information may be found here. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet at 6 p.m. The agenda may be found here.

5. Youth Media Training: Montgomery Community Media (MCM) will offer two one-week virtual camps for youth ages 12 and up. The Podcasting Camp will be offered the week July 27. The Smartphone Video Production Camp will be offered the week of  August 3. Click here for the flyer.
