Five Things to Know Today, Aug. 20, in Montgomery County

It’s Thursday, Aug. 20, and it’s the final day of the Democratic National Convention. This evening former Vice President Joe Biden, the Democratic presidential nominee, is scheduled to speak. In the meantime, here are five things to know in Montgomery County:

1. Public Hearing on 495, 270: Tonight is the second of four virtual public hearings concerning the widening and managed lanes on I-495 and I-270. Three sessions will be held: 9 a.m. until noon, 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. and from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. The hearings will be livestreamed at this websiteClick here to sign up to testify.

2. County Testing Clinic in Germantown: Montgomery County has scheduled a coronavirus testing clinic at Plum Gar Recreation Center in Germantown from 1 to 4 p.m.

3. Food Distribution: Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, located at 608 N. Horners Lane in Rockville, has a free food distribution event from 5 p.m. until all food is given away.

4. KTown Food Truck Night: It’s Kensington Food Truck Night! From 5 to 8 p.m. residents can enjoy food from a variety of local food trucks on Armory Avenue, behind the Safeway, in Kensington. KTown Food Truck Night is the third Thursday every month. Food Truck Nights that will be featured this evening are Corned Beef King, Go Fish Seafood Truck, and Pop-up Patisserie.

5. Senior Planet: Senior Planet Montgomery continues offering free Zoom classes to Senior residents. Today’s classes include “Chair Chi,” “Morning Stretch,” “Internet of Things: Smarthomes,” “Internet of Things: Wearables,” and more.
