5 Things to Know Today, Sept. 2, In Montgomery County

Today is Friday, Sept. 2. As we head into the Labor Day weekend, here’s the 10 day forecast and 5 things to know today and this weekend.

1. Beach-bound Travelers: The Maryland Transportation Authority has identified the best times to travel on the Bay Bridge this weekend.

Advice for Beachbound Travelers on Labor Day Weekend

2. Free At-Home COVID-19 Test Kits:  Today is the last day to order free COVID-19 at home test kits from the federal government. The program, that began in January, is suspended due to a lack of funds.

3. Pediatric COVID Vaccination Clinics:  The public schools and the health department are vaccinating children ages 6 months to 5 years old Saturday and Sunday. Appointments are required and may be made online.

4. Friday Night Concert: The Latin pop rock band Ocho de Bastos band performs in Bethesda at the corner of Norfolk and St. Elmo Avenues from 6 to 8 p.m.

5. Live Music on the Farm: Rocklands Farm Winery in Poolesville features live music on their patio tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. The farm is located at 14531 Montevideo Road. Also, the 61 Vineyard in Damascus has live music, various breweries, distilleries, wineries, food and more from 6 to 8 p.m. They are located at 28712 Kemptown Road in Damascus.

And don’t forget Labor Day Weekend Events:

  • Kensington’s Paint the Town Art Show takes place at the Town Hall/Armory Saturday through Monday.
  • Gaithersburg’s Labor Day Parade takes place in Olde Town Monday.
  • Kensington’s Annual Labor Day Parade and Festival is set for Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The parade starts at St. Paul Park and ends at the grandstand next to Noyes Children’s Library. The festival follows the parade with food trucks, vendors, and activities.

And remember to check What’s Open, What’s Not on Labor Day before you go this weekend, as many facilities will be closed for the Labor Day Holiday
