5 Things to Know Today, Sept. 10, In Montgomery County

Today is Friday, Sept. 10 and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. 9/11 Community Remembrance:  Montgomery County will honor the 11 county residents who perished during Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with a service at Courthouse Square Park in Rockville scheduled for 11 a.m.

2. Live Music at the Streetery:  Tonight the Jay Byrd & The Musical Trust band is scheduled to perform in Bethesda. The Bethesda Urban Partnership hosts live music every Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m. through Oct. 29. The concerts will take place at the corner of Cordell and Norfolk Avenues within the Bethesda Streetery. Tables and chairs are available at the Bethesda Streetery on a first come, first served basis.

3. Red Line Metro Station Changes:  Metro will replace the platform canopy at the Rockville station, which will force the closure of both the Shady Grove and Rockville stations from Sept. 11 through Dec. 4.

4. 9/11 Family Member Remembers:  Eleven Montgomery County residents lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Tom Heidenberger lost his wife Michele who was a senior flight attendant on board American Airlines #77 that hit the Pentagon. Heidenberger shares his story of survival with MyMCM.

5. Josiah Henson Community Celebration:  Montgomery Parks is hosting an afternoon of free, family fun and activities to celebrate the Josiah Henson Museum and Park located in North Bethesda. Museum admission will be free during the event which takes place Sunday, Sept. 12 from noon to 4 p.m. Parking is available at Wall Local Park/Kennedy-Shriver Aquatic Center.
