The Montgomery County Planning Department has scheduled two meetings in September to discuss draft recommendations for their first Pedestrian Master Plan. The plan seeks to make “walking and rolling safer, more comfortable, more convenient and more accessible for pedestrians of all ages and abilities in all parts of the county,” according to their website.
The first meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, Sept 7 from 7 to 9 p.m., takes place virtually. Registration is required and may be done online at the Montgomery Planning website. Then on Tuesday, Sept. 13 a second meeting will be held at planning headquarters, located at 2425 Reedie Drive in Wheaton. Registration is required and may be done online here.

There are six themes covered in the plan: build, maintain, protect, expand access, monitor, and fund. Each aim to include new and improved policies, practices, designs and programming that help minimize traffic injuries and fatalities.
The purpose of the September meetings is for planners to obtain feedback on the preliminary policy, design, and programming recommendations for the Pedestrian Master Plan, which is a key component of the county’s “Vision Zero” initiative, approved in 2016. Vision Zero aims to eliminate severe and fatal traffic collisions in the county by 2030.
